This study is enrolling 50 participants with acute spinal cord injury to test the safety and tolerability of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS). taVNS is a non-invasive technique that uses mild electrical stimulation applied through the ear to stimulate a branch of the vagus nerve, which is involved in regulating pain, inflammation, and several bodily functions. If included, participants will first receive a brief session of taVNS during inpatient rehabilitation. Eligible participants will then receive taVNS immediately before their routine mobility therapy sessions. Final assessment of safety and tolerability, as well as heart rate and blood pressure measures, will be performed within 48 hours.
